:: Project Management
It's more than just Dim Sum.
Our team wanted to showcase the richness of Hong Kong beyond its surface. We designed and executed various projects to shed light on the cultural essence to the Mainland. These included a series of cultural events and exhibitions, such as performances by The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Swan Lake by the Hong Kong Ballet. A meeting with the Chief Executive of HKSAR also provided an opportunity for the public to engage in dialogue with the CE.
🔥 Challenge
The office had two batches of interns working with them during the summer of 2017. I joined the latter group, where I had to take over some of the projects that others had already started. Aligning project goals and grasping their context wasn't an easy task.
🧯 What I did?
Given the number of projects in the pipeline and the tight timeline, I asked to shadow the projects I was taking over After the job shadowing, I went through all the projects to ensure I understood the context, discussing any remaining questions with both the other intern and my supervisor.
:: On-site Operational Support
It's showtime.
The Gala Banquet was definitely the highlight of my internship at the Hong Kong Government Office. It was attended by over 200 high-level political leaders, industry figures, and academics from both Hong Kong and the Eastern Mainland.
🔥 Challenge
With no surprise, my supervisor assigned me the responsibility of looking after the students from YK Pao School who were scheduled to perform onstage alongside other students from Shanghai (myself included!). This meant I had to juggle multiple tasks, switching between performing onstage and attending to my other duties.
🧯 What I did?
I shared my concerns with my team about coordinating over 50 students, teachers, and their excited parents, and I mentioned that I might need some extra help. Thankfully, my supervisor assigned additional support for the task. Also, the day before the Gala, I sent out a reminder to the student group, covering important logistical details.
